After the extremely successful "Shoebox4Syria" campaign of Term 1, our Student Representative Council (SRC) is pleased to share wonderful news about yet another successful fundraising drive with you all: The "Winter Syria Campaign" officially closed last Saturday, 15 September 2018 and all donated goods are now on their way to their destinations in Syria.
With Winter time fast approaching our suffering brothers and sisters in Syria, you will be delighted to know that all donated goods have been dispatched. We are hoping to help in bringing some relief and smiles to some Syrian people this winter by the grace of Almighty Allah.
During the 8 weeks the Winter Syria Campaign was running, our SRC team members were very busy in fundraising for the campaign, collecting donating items such as warm clothes, first aids, blankets, hygiene, toys and stationery items from school and local and interstate communities. We are very thankful to “Compassion Knits”, knitting group from Queensland, who has kindly donated us more than 80 hand knitted children blankets send to us by road transport.
The Year 5-6 SRCs were busy in sorting and packing toiletries pack using zipper bag for the Syrian people. They prepared over 200 toiletries pack, which included toothbrush, toothpaste, comb and a bar soap for the displaced people in Syria. Our Middle and Senior girls spend most of their lunch hours in sorting, preparing and packing donated items such as kids, women and men clothing, footwear, first aids, toys, stationeries, plastic crockeries and hygiene items into bags and boxes. The Year 7-12 girls used their home groups to raised funds and donated Sanitary items for Syrian women.
Along with SRC, it was wonderful to see non SRC members joining in to contribute and give their time and efforts towards this noble cause. Our Year 7-12 boys showed passion to help in packing of bags to its final stage for shipment in the form of labelling the bags tags and school logos on each bag and boxes.
On Friday, 14 September 2018, our Middle boys and Senior boys/girls participated in loading the final bags from school campus onto school bus to deliver them to the container for Saturday, 15 September when eight dedicated students from our Year 7-11 boys joined in with me, Mr Shukran and Mr Amir Dar to deliver 165 bags and boxes to the container site, thus demonstrated the college six values to a high standard in front of wider community.
Our SRCs would like to thank and appreciate the Australian Syrian Association for giving us the opportunity to partner with them for this winter campaign, *Fordgate Pharmacy for donating medical aids, the Al Siraat community, Mrs Sarah Wills from our “Parents and Friend Forum”, staff, parents and students for their ongoing support towards this worthy cause.*
