In honouring both National Volunteer Day (18 May) and the upcoming World Environment Day (5 June), Environmental Captain Junayd Ayoubi, SRC Coordinator Ms Noori Ahmad and Sustainability Coordinator Ms Tanja Kubitza were invited by local MP and Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D'Ambrosio to attend an afternoon tea at her office last week.
The event celebrated local volunteer achievements and aspirations concerning sustainability, recycling, solar energy and environmental landscapes. Attendees shared their past, current and future projects. As part of this, College Environmental Captain Junayd (Year 12) presented the current 3 SRC projects to collect bread tags, bottle caps, batteries, pencils and used stationary and more for sorting and recycling to the audience.
Ms Tanja spoke about the school’s Resource Smart Schools (RSS) program and projects as well as her participation in the first ever Whittlesea-based Nature Stewards Program run by Outdoors Victoria.
We congratulate Junayd on receiving an Environmental Volunteering Award at the function by the Minister.
We would like to thank MP Lily D'Ambrosio for her wonderful acknowledgement of Al Siraat’s current sustainability projects and for giving us the opportunity to hear from and connect with other inspiring local groups and school communities.
