Year 2 Excursion: Meadow Heights Mosque

Year 2 Excursion: Meadow Heights Mosque

After much anticipation, our Year 2’s visited Meadow Heights Mosque on Wednesday, 20 September 2017.

Our students were first introduced to Ms Elif who showed us around the mosque. We watched a video about strangers and learnt a very valuable lesson that all Muslims are good strangers. Students made paper lanterns with a friend to symbolise how good Muslims work together and cooperate with one another. Next, the students played a game called “Get to the Qur’an" where they needed to follow the right path to the Qur’an blindfolded.

We entered the prayer area, made du'a and looked at the Iman’s place. We learnt that the area is called "mihrab" and is a semicircular niche in the wall of a mosque indicating the qibla. Tus, the wall in which a mihrab appears is called the "qibla wall". Its particular shape helps the voice of the imam travels through the entire mosque.

We also looked at the beautiful features on the walls of the mosque and on the doom, featuring the prophets' names and Surah Al Fatihah. Afterwards, we were treated to some freshly cut watermelon. The students ended their excursion day with praying Zuhr in the mosque.

Our day at the Meadow Heights Mosque was a great experience that both students and teachers enjoyed.
