Students from Year 3 were permitted to support today’s fundraiser for the people affected by Cyclone Winston in Fiji by dressing in clothes that represent their cultural heritage.
The Year 3 students had previously worked hard on a study unit about "persuasive writing" and had presented their arguments for or against wearing a school uniform to not only their class teachers but also College Principal Mr Houghton. As a result of a very persuasive piece of writing, the students convinced Mr Houghton to allow them to have an "Out of Uniform Day" at the College. They were asked to contribute with a gold coin donation if they chose to come to class out of uniform.
Mr Houghton was most impressed with two very strong opinions the children had:
1) We will be able to see the clothes from different Nationalities.
2) When we have lots of clothes, we can earn ‘Hassanah’ and donate to charity.
