Members of our Parents and Friends Community (PFC), along with some of our students, came together for a Pre-Ramadan Clean Up in the morning hours of Saturday, 27 March 2021. It was wonderful to see the community join hands to help clean up all the rubbish around the College. The working bee finished with a lovely bbq lunch on site, generously donated by one of our dedicated parents.
We were able to fill many bags of rubbish, from purely the front and side of the school. We found bottles, plastic tops, cardboard boxes, dumped rubbish and plenty of wrappers. While a lot of these items could have come from surrounding worksites and neighbours, a considerable amount of it would be from our kids' lunch boxes.
This really highlights the need for our school community to reduce the wrappers, fruit boxes and plastic bags we send with our children for their recess and lunches. By making these small changes, we can all make a huge difference to the amount of rubbish in the classrooms.
The Clean Up concluded with Ms Tanya, one of the school’s Sustainability Officers, updating us on the latest projects and developments around the College in regards to the ResourceSmartSchools Program and sustainability in general.
