Community Celebration of 10 Years of Learning

This week, Al Siraat celebrated 10 years since opening their doors to their very first students on a quiet country road in Epping. Starting with just under 80 students, the College is now proud to have a highly diverse school community with 914 students from over 50 different ethnic backgrounds.

In celebration of 10 Years of Learning, ASC hosted a free community event on Saturday, 2 March 2019. There were jumping castles, activities, henna art, balloons, crafts, rides as well as a sausage sizzle. A special Thank You to Craigieburn Halal Meats who donated 800 sausages to the College for the event for free, mashaAllah.

The event included the official opening ceremony of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Community Gardens with two trees being planted by Mayor CR Lawrie Cox and Principal Fazeel Arain. Mayor Cox was presented with a plaque to be mounted in the community gardens. Mr Fazeel gave a speech in appreciation of the support and community grant Al Siraat have received from the City of Whittlesea. Mayor Lawrie Cox gave a wonderful speech on the importance of supporting initiatives like the gardens which bring together our wonderfully diverse community.

Special guests included president of the Whittlesea Interfaith Network (WIN) Nathan Elijah and Senior Constable Shanice Vilone from Victoria Police.

The Community Gardens were put together by parents from a 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community and includes a beautiful seating area, birth baths, fruit trees, compost bins and of course, the actual garden beds ready to be planted.

Moving forward, there are several working bees lined up especially for people that are new to gardening including workshops on composting, companion planting and a special workshop for mums and bubs with "The Sage Garden".
