2015 marked the very first year of the Secondary School Athletics Carnival. Students from Years 7 to 11 participated in track and field events at the Meadow Glen International Athletics Stadium.
With clouds covering the sky and the expected chance of rain, this did not dampen the excitement, enthusiasm and high level of participation of our young aspiring athletes.
The day commenced with the girls' 100m sprint events. Prior to the boys' involvement, our young girls tackled the track, some students running in almost every event including the 200m, 400m and 800m running. However, it was Ms Maryam Salhab who stole the show, with her running attempts in multiple events as well as the teacher vs students 4 x 100m relay.
Throughout Term 3, PE staff have been delivering lessons with an emphasis on athletics. In fact, this year Al Siraat received funding through the Sporting Schools grant to help enrich our programs even further, so much so that we were able to purchase our very first set of javelins. This javelin practice completed during PE lessons was helpful for students competing in the throw events.
Congratulations to Team Marwa, winner of the day with a total of 658 points!
A big thank you to all staff who assisted and help make the event an enjoyable competition for our secondary students.
