Our Year 5/6 Girls team participated in the the AFL Friendly Gala Day, hosted by Merrymede College as part of School Sports Victoria (SSV). Team Captain Sammar Ayoubi from Year 6A kindly provided us with the following recount of her team's experience:
On Friday, 27 October our Year 5/6 girls team played 5 friendly matches against 5 different schools.
Mashallah, the girls were fantastic.
We won 2 games, lost one and drew two more. The first round, we didn’t play that good but we managed to man up in the other 4 rounds. For me, our star player for kicking goals was Ammal Mohamed in Year 6A. One of our players had the best tackle against someone from another school - her name is Khadeejah Islam, also from Year 6A.
It was a really good experience and a very fun one. InShAllah everyone enjoyed it. A thank you to the Sports Department for all your help, and a special thanks to Mr Saleh who helped us a lot especially by coaching us and giving us advice and to Ms Layal even though she couldn’t come she helped the grade 5 and 6 girls train. I hope everyone had a wonderful experience and good luck in the future to the Year 5 girls team.
