Al Siraat is developing many star cricketers! Our Year 5-6 and 3-4 boys and girls teams have recently competed in the Woolworths Cricket Blast School Cup Competitions.
The Year 5-6 boys team went through the day undefeated and earned the right to participate in the regional finals. At the regional finals the boys made the semi-final, narrowly losing in a high-quality cricket match.
The 5-6 girls showed continued improvement and won their last of three games. Their behaviour was so impressive, Cricket Victoria invited them to the regional finals also where they again won one game out their three matches.
The Year 3-4 boys and girls teams won three games and narrowly lost only one game out of four.
Due to the keenness of the Al Siraat Cricket players Cricket Victoria invited the school to attend the Melbourne Renegades Women’s Big Bash Game at the Junction Oval. Some lucky players had the chance to be on the oval at the start of each innings of the game and received a signed hat from a player.
The PE Department hopes that such events will create life long memories for the students, and hopefully encourage students to join a cricket club in their local area to continue developing their skills and knowledge of the game. If students want to seriously improve their game of cricket then extra training must be performed outside of school hours.
In continuing with the cricket theme, all staff students and parents are invited to attend the inaugural staff versus year 7/8 students cricket match which will be held Friday, 6 December on the school’s main oval. Food will be available to purchase, with proceeds going towards the McGrath Foundation which supports breast cancer sufferers.
Enjoy your summer of cricket!!
