Year 9 Canberra Camp

18 October 2022

While the rain was pouring in Melbourne, our Year 9 students were spared from the wild weather during their 5 days/4 nights camp in Canberra where they were given the wonderful opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian National Botanic Garden offered an amazing experience to our Year 9’s in connecting them to the Australian flora from all parts of the country. Students had an opportunity to have a ranger take them through various preserved plants and educated them on the connections they have to our First Nations Peoples.

Students have also visited the following places:

  • Australian War Memorial
  • Parliament House
  • Museum of Australian Democracy
  • National Museum of Australia
  • High Court of Australia
  • Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre
  • National Arboretum Canberra
  • Geo Science
  • National Capital Exhibition.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $45 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support. This was the 4th time 51³Ô¹ÏÍø was able to embark on an interstate trip with our students.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank Ms Mehreen, Mr Vis, Mr Rauf, Mr Sahran, Mr Adam A., Ms Marwa, Ms Safiye, Ms Sana and Ms Taybah for their tireless efforts in making this a rich and very valuable experience, alhamdulillah.
