There are a lot of young Muslims who are not enrolled to or do not know how to vote once they turn 18. The “My Vote Matters” Program, an Islamic Council of Victoria Democracy Initiative is designed to help students to change this, because being an active citizen and participating in civic life is essential to making a positive contribution to the country we live in.
The “My Vote Matters” workshop was presented to our Year 11 VCE students by campaign leader Amie Templar-Kanshlo and Campaign Coordinator Samy Ibrahim. The session was about voting rights and how to vote, to make sure their votes count and their voices are heard, given that the Victorian State Elections are next month.
Our Senior students found the session so engaging and beneficial. They also had the opportunity to enrol to vote at the end of the session.
