Students from our four Foundation classes were very excited to discover their new word for the week! They came in the morning ready to toast their bread and spread jam all by themselves. This is all a part of the literacy experience we provided the children with.
Before the visit, the children had been introduced to the word “jam” and had been practicing using their phoneme fist to sound out the three phonemes (Speech Sounds) j- a –m which form the word jam. During the experience the children were provided with numerous opportunities to build upon their existing knowledge about jam.
Afterwards, some children wrote recount sentences about the mini breakfast in their class. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in a learning and social experience all together.
